    1. This is a new YouTube feature called "YouTube Shorts" (that YouTube are promoting quite heavily).

They are vertical videos designed for mobile that are less than 1 minute long. They show up in various places in the YouTube mobile app, but it usually takes a few days to appear on the "Shorts Shelf".

Unfortunately they're still uploaded as "normal" videos, so you'll also see them on desktop as well. For now, I've turned off subscriber notifications for these videos (that may change), and I've made all of the thumbnails "green" so you can easily ignore them if you don't like vertical videos.

These will come in addition to regular video releases, not in place of them.

I'm using this feature as a way to attract new subscribers and to introduce newbies to short facts that I can talk about in more detail in a future video.

And no, I'm not going to start posting to Instagram or TikTok: I want to focus my time on more content on YouTube rather than less content but on more platforms.

    2. They are safe until the next speeding and reckless motor scooter tries to pass you… never understood how that was even legal. Why build expensive bicycle lanes and then allow motorized vehicles, apart from that they’re excellent.

    3. They made bike lanes where I live few years ago. Just just marked part of the road making the road thiner for cars. It doesn’t solve the fact cyclist still have to be on the same road as drivers. Not many people bike here. Good ole ‘Merica.

    4. As a Dutchie I’m always so confused when I’m abroad. I always wonder where the bike-paths are and where bikers are allowed to go. In the Netherlands it is always clear where the bike paths are and they continue everywhere. When abroad I sometimes see like a bike path that then disappears after a crossing and it’s soo weird to me hahah

    5. Does this mean cyclists not in the US aren’t total rule-breaking, snobby a$$holes? Cuz most of the ones we have here have a blatant disregard for the laws and generally anyones safety except their own. Gets really old…

    6. They were being built in my state in India (few hundred km were built g) but then opposition came in power and break them under the excuse of it causes congestion of road for cars but really it was destroyed because cycle is the symbol of the party which built it and the new party heavily rely on pr
3,00,00,000 rs b by party lotus
19,00,000 rs by cycle party on just social media

(under note my state UP in India and is a production power house but is plagued by corruption, and the worst police resulting in very backward condition, he'ce don't judge any party based on this comment)

    7. I think it is safe to say these big 4m wide bicycle paths are only found in the bigger cities like Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht. In the rest of the Netherlands fietsstroken are more common tho.

    8. i’m in the us and biking always made me nervous cause you either bike in the street and get hit by a car or you bike on the sidewalks and worry about getting in the way of pedestrians. i love how the bike lanes work in the netherlands! so simple and stress free

    9. Meanwhile here in Canada:

Yes, we listened. Here is your bike path. 1 lane, wide enough for maybe 3 bikes. It cost 10 million to build and connects one end of the city to the other. It takes you nowhere but the tourist attractions, and the only divider between you and the busiest street in the entire city is this 3 cm tall plastic guardrail which os the exact same colour as the road and becomes impossible to see under any snow. Don't you love how friendly our city is to biking?

    10. BTW the bike paths are sometimes the same road as cars but red(sometimes not) painted and also white lines with a intervall

    11. Ur forgetting the best type of fietspad the "bromfietspad" a place where mopeds can show their fossiel fuel superiority

    12. Every time I see stuff like this in Europe, it makes me hate living in America even more than I already do lol. I guess it's better to drive in America tho since then the metal surrounding you can help stop stray bullets from all the shootings….

    13. The bike paths in the USA are chock full of runners/walkers with their noise canceling earphones on walking in the middle of the path. The bike lanes in the USA are consistently invaded by cars either suddenly turning or just plain blocking them while parked. It’s so frustrating to be a bike commuter in the land where car is king. 😩

    14. I would love to bring a bike around or even to work but the paranoia of getting it stolen (yes even with a good lock and a secure spot) will always be there for me. No door, no key or any true deterrents.
