    1. RIP Gino, total respect for all the professional riders who compete in what is often high speed and congested racing and one of the most dangerous sports in the world.

    2. Only 2 of the top 4 finishers of the 2018 U23 World Championship road race are still with us. A very sad reminder to always stay safe on the road.

    3. While descending is definitely dangerous, the problem is that a lot of the riders are riding these courses for the first time and they dont know where the dangerous parts are, like closing radius turns, super short corners after a steep section, etc. The race organizers need to do better explaining these descents if theyre going to put them in. LIke if youre descending at -12% and theres a turn coming up, that needs to be noted in the packet. Like be safe. Idk. RIP

    4. Now there is a lot of word acrobatics, not at least from the TdS officials.
      That wasn't just an accident.
That wasn't just an unlucky incident.
That was what had to happen.
It was only a matter of time.
Just take this year's incidents with Tao Geoghegan Hart crashing against an unprotected corner of a house at a rainy downhill, look at the scene of the group around Alaphilippe crossing that S-corner bridge, look at the feet of the fences, that once did cost Marcel Wüst's eye and are still there, look at the top of the fences, that are almost like the bottom half of a guillotine, take last year's final TdS time trial with the unprotected sharp wall reaching unprotected into the final roundabout – in rain or more gusty wind doubtlessly cause of havoc.
      No,
that was a not prevented collateral casualty of once again derailed sport, beautiful and fascinating, with lots of relatable, wonderful athletes, home of a great, collaborating international community, however run in part and as closer to the money the more by arrogant, incompetent, short sited and ruthless opportunists.
      It won't change.
And hence remain as disturbing as catching.
La Punt / Chamues-Chel just paid a lot of money to the TdS to be finish and start of a stage and get the coverage.
The sport had to step back.
For the sport a mountain top finish on the Albula would have made more sense or at least a some 20 km final lap after the descent that would have allowed those who'd like to limit their risks to catch up again.
But no – even as it's freshly paved and in the best condition ever, they decided to have a descent with some of the most difficult, most unpredictable (wind gusts) and most dangerous corners directly towards the finish line.
This decent – one might imagine – could well have been the race for stage victory!
Gino Mäder might have seen all that.
Hopefully his fellow sportsmen now raise their voice.
We, the GCN, the Global Cycling community, should support them in that.

    5. I am a cycling fanatic and i ride everyday of my bicycle im sad about happen to Gino Mader , while to all cyclist be carefull and safe ride always / RIP Gino Mader

    6. Mourning, praying, consoling, it’s all good and well. A thousand times better is to take measures to prevent these accidents in the future.

    7. This sort of tragedy requires racing to rethink safety for the sake of our youth – many sports evolve….why not cycling.

Sadly this reminds me of Ayrton Senna and F1 – global gut punch.

      Gino❤️
I respectfully encourage more riders past & present to find their voice.

    8. I haven't been watching racing as much as i used to. I was worried when i started seeing these downhill into town finishes that there would be some horrible crashes. Descending is a skill but personally i don't like this idea. RIP and condolences to his family.
