For this race, I travelled to Denmark together with my cycling buddy Daan. We got invited to the 11th edition of the Viking Granfondo in Denmark which is now officially part of the L’Étape by Tour de france series. L’Étape Denmark is a 300km race across the country over a natural ridge used over the centuries by migrants pilgrims and Vikings to stay dry as they moved across Denmark. The race ends in Viborg, Viborg means ”holy mountain”. It’s one of Denmark’s oldest cities with traces all the way back to ancient times. On the way to Viborg we raced for the 3 well known Jerseys of the TdF, the Yellow, polkadot and Green sprinters Jersey. On the route there are 4 climbing KOM segments and 3 sprint segments that are timed, the fasted accumulated times will count towards the jersey and the first that crosses the finish will win the Yellow. We were focused on the GREEN!!

    1. Must be out-of-body experience for organizers to have The Devil Didi himself attending the event in own person – as far most recognized person in the hord, participants included 😅
It's quite funny, remember I was talking about this race before it's virgin debut. Now many years later near my mid 50ies still haven't participated myself, instead loads from my local bike club as well as colleagues and wife's triathlon friends have visited numerous times, think in all maybe 50-60 persons not even aware of this race when I got first news when route creation in the making. Meanwhile I've participated numerous times in the Gran Fondo La Marmotte instead, of which seems a bit silly since I was born not far from Viborg and was brought up between my 4th and 18th years not far from the route.
