This video chronicles our 8 day cycling trip along the Danube River in May 2019. We rented two bikes in Passau and cycled our way to Vienna. It’s downhill all the way so the going was easy. Daily distances ranged from 40-60 km. and total distance was about 350 km. Austria and especially the bicycle route along the Danube River is perfectly suited for this kind of travel and they take kindly to tourists on bicycles. Sooooo many places to stop for coffee, beer and snacks along the road.

Itinerary:

1 Passau
2 Fahrner Sculptures, Wesenufer
3 Schlogener Blick, Wilhering Abby, Linz
4 Marien Dom , Grein
5 Bike Museum, Pochlarn PowerDam, Melk
6 Melk Abbey , Krems
7 Piarist Church, Tulln
8 Vienna , Klosterneuburg

Logistics:
Bike rentals from Fahrradklinik in Passau. Solid, reliable bikes and very helpful staff. We paid to have the bikes picked up in Klosterneuburg. We would use them again.
All the hotels were booked by my wife in advance.
We started this trip in Vienna and took a train to Passau. And of course cycled all the way back to Vienna!

Music:
Al Stewart – The Black Danube
Carlo Ambrosio Fabio Di Bari – Bicycle Galop 1
Kevin Macleod – Austrian Zither Landler
Molto Cortese – Danube Anniversary Song
Silvio Piersanti – Bicycle
Sounds Effects Best Library – Bicycle (Fahrrad)
Stephane Wrembel – Buster Swing
Stephane Wrembel – Les Flots Du Danube
Swing De Gitanes – Danube

  1. I very much like the way you have made this video.
I hate all these youtube-videos where you cannot see peoples faces, because they are wearing helmets and sunglasses. Not to mention the awful background popmusic that in general is also very annoying.
In this respect, your video stands out in a positive way, including the cheerfulness and humor that sometimes show.

  2. Well done guys! Three brothers who are great friends and I are going to do this tours Sept. of 2021. We're all in our 60's and we're like little kids talking about this trip!.It's going to be EPIC!!! Thanks for posting the video. All the best from California, Arizona and Washington!

  3. Great video. How many miles per day did you do? Fortunately, I have all the time I need. You did in eight days, would it be nice to take longer? Thanks

  4. Very nice film with a very personal touch, nicely edited and with a lot of humor. It's fantastic that you came to Europe from Canada for this. We are from Belgium and i
In 2013 my wife and I also made this cycling trip together with a couple of friends and we made a film about it. The Voice Over is in Dutch, but because you already made this trip, it is not important to you. You will recognize most places. After the trip we also stayed in Vienna for two more days, where we made a separate video about it (48 hours in Vienna). Luckily we had better weather than you and didn't have a drop of rain! Suggestion: Northern Italy is also very beautiful for cycling. We also add the link to these films. Enjoy!

what are the cons that you experienced ? and how you guys transport your main luggage.

  8. Very enjoyable to watch. Thank you for sharing. Your video provides useful info such as bike shops, lodging, city names, and routes. I can’t wait to bike-tour Europe. What are the lessons you have learned? Any thing to avoid or wish you have or haven’t done? Thank you.

  10. I just finished a Viking cruise along this route. I would sit and look at the shore, all the cyclists going up and down the river trail, and was envious of them. Looks like so much fun!

  11. For some reason Youtube served up this video to me. And I watched the whole thing imagining myself doing the same trip. I confess I also had a crush on Katherine after the first video. But I still enjoyed the boys cycling trip to Italy video, so maybe also a crush on Mr Muskox. I've now also seen your videos on the Via Alta and Vietnam. I love the gypsy swing in some videos and modern music choice to accompany the Vietnam video. And your slideshow/video editing choices. Thank you for being intrepid travellers rather than travel 'influencers'.
