I’ve been wanting to try out some older bikes for a while now, and this year I figure is the time to have some fun with this! I don’t have sponsorship obligations, which is nice, because I always like to be more free. I credit my Patrons for giving me the opportunity to do this, because they keep me free and funded to do fun projects like this!

HUGE thanks to all my PATRONS who take this channel farther! Enjoy more content:

I hope you like it, I put a lot of work into this video! And I am so stoked to have this Norco A-line that I dreamed about back in the day! It’s a heavy bike and I could really feel it haha! Also those skinny handlebars were interesting! I would love to make this into some kind of series where I do upgrades and see how well I can shred with an older bike like this!

Thanks Brendan for the DSLR Footage!

    1. I am currently restoring a Santa Cruz V10 MK1, it is the legacy of a friend who died in a professional XC career, I started with the pure frame and all that remains is to paint and assemble, it is a work of engineering well ahead of its time

    2. its a nice bike but i dont think an bike form after 2000 can be called oldschool 😛 the hot chili warp 9.3 is an old school dh machine

    3. This thing is so sweet! I used to love these back in the day as well. I have an 06 Bigfoot now that I put wider bars and a layback seat post on and it made a huge difference.

    4. i had a 2k9 Kona Stinky with the 888 and guess what… i broke the indestructable frame on my local singletrail. I did it. Sadly Kona changed their lifelong warranty on their frames in 2k8. I was fakin crying. It was like 22 kilograms (im german) and felt like a fakin tank on wheels but it was such a smooth feeling to ride. I loved it.

    5. You should try out the rigid MTB’s of the 90s my first mtb was a Diamondback ascent Ex 93 rode it till the frame finally snapped at the seat tube in 2014 it weight under 20lbs for 1993 that was impressive. Also those old rigid bikes were insanely fast on mtb and on road I would outrun road bikers not even trying they thought and they would ask if I had a motor inside lol.

    6. Not sure if I should feel insulted. My ONLY bike for the last many years has been a 2007 Rocky Mountain Slayer. She's a weapon, and I was tearing it up at the local downhill trails whenever we went.

    7. I still ride the 2009 Norco Fluid LT (long travel), great bike. Bikes have not changed much other than bar width. The Monster T was a great fork responsible for ushering many changes to mountain bikes. Sad to see the newer forks are not built as reliable as these old ones. (short service intervals)

    8. If any of you older people are watching this, or other videos of MTBers, you should know that these kids are the children of aliens. Which explains why they are capable of such impossible feats.

    9. Funny. I have a 1985isg Specialized Stumpjumper. Very few bikes back then had front suspension. They were just coming out. I road that thing all over the place in La.

    10. thank god, a real trail. so tired of gnc saying their gravel bikes are “do it all” and then they just ride the lamest noob trails

    11. Nice ride bro! Im still rocking it on my foes the fly 2003 running the curnutt xtd and rs boxxer world cups. Personally I like the "shortness" of the older bikes, closer to my rad🖖

    12. Shame it's a small frame. I've come across so many great deals on stunning retro bikes such as this but had to stop myself cause I'm too tall for small.

    13. Nice vid! I get it…I just bought a super clean top spec 2008 DS XC bike I just could not afford years ago. Ppl may laugh, I don't care. It brings me endless joy to make it perfect in every detail and I treat it like it cost a ton, tho it didn't. I appreciate it for the nostalgia and it still rides like a dream. I carry it over mud puddles…because the previous owner kept it minty, I think I owe it, and him that much.

    14. Older bikes definitely have a unique appeal. You can grab the high end bikes from the early 2000s for cheap these days and their parts do the job just as well.

    15. Not everyone "back then" (I started riding BMX bikes in 1978ish) in 2008 rode tall bars. I was sort of forced to ride 1" rise because all the flat bars were XC and no one would sell them to me. I did mill the bottom of my stem so it would sit lower.

    16. I am still riding my 2005 Giant Reign 2 that was custom built for me new back in 2006. Im running a Pike 426 coil U-Turn and it is a tank. The bike is in amazing condition as after it was built I only rode it for about a year solid and then got into MX and put it away. I got back into MTB a couple years ago and broke out the Giant. I have been looking at a new bike though and wondering how much difference there is.

    17. They look so darn awkward now compared to the new bikes. I love the camo wheels. We use to drool over the old bikes back in the day when they were new. I started mountain biking in 04 and first good bikes were 05 and 06. I really love my new bikes but really think mountain biking was so much better when bikes like this were new in the earlier 2000’s
