If you think Nick can gravel bike up a 1000m incline, think again. The big question is will I actually MAKE it to the coffee stop in Malhão let alone 42km up the track for a delicious, traditional, countryside lunch? My buddy Fiona from https://echappee-portugal.com/ drags me around the Algarve on a rainy day in February.

    1. Highly recommend also learning how to do kettlebell swings. It’s a good aerobic/anaerobic exercise. Do 100 a day, 5-6 days a week! You’ll see your endurance improve as a result.

    2. If you hold yourself accountable, take it one day at a time, you will see progress on the goal. How do you et an elephant? One spoonful at a time…. Really enjoy the videos, good work.

    3. By end of 60days, try also have increased Vegetables & Fruit to variety of 30/week! Likewise, my 'Longevity-Fit' starting Mon, 24th! Hope to catch somewhen in Algarve! Fiona is inspiring! Now more of a Hiker/Nordic walker, as 'downhill cycling speed' just became scary, lol!

    4. This was fantastic Nick and Fiona. I am a huuuuuge bicyclist Did the Gran Fondo twice in NY. ( lived there for 29 years..). My plan is to live where I can bike everywhere for my lifestyle. ( I do that now in FL). One of the best videos yet. I’m in my sixties and I’m “ exploring “ Burgau this year. Nick. Limit red meat. Stay with fish if you must have an “ animal”…. I’ve been a vegetarian for over 40 years. Never have dead animal. And I ride ALOT. Everyday. Still working also. ( I know Fiona has clip ons. I heard her click on). Nick – get click ons. You will sail up the hills. Yep. Great video. I loved every minute of it.

    5. Fiona is awesome! Hopefully I get to ride with her one day.

Great job Nick, very impressive. I would try and do it if it was all paved and I didn't have a 25 # back pack. All flat (boring as Fiona says) here so that climb would kill me.

You'll do fine with those 5 things, no worries.

    6. Nick, that was bolo de bolacha right? And phew parabèns for those 42k scooting up and down those hills with powerhouse Fiona! 👋👋👋liz

    7. Thanks for the video and featuring gravel cycling in Portugal. For an novice you did a great job battling through. That heavy backpack was much tougher to carry on a bike then you might realize. Cycling will be a great help in your fitness goals but make sure your doing good volume at a low to moderate pace. Weight comes off when your riding at a pace that a conversation is easily maintained. Think about an hour as your baseline time and get a 2-3 hour ride in once a week. The bike you used was a great one for that area. But make sure to get a good pair of cycling shorts. Padding on you shorts is much more effective than on a seat.
I was a bike guide during university and have taken 30 years of to be a pilot. Still ride about 12 hours a week but going back to being a guide would be the best job change ever. Hopefully I can be doing it in Portugal.

    8. As always, a great video, Nick, but the interview with Fiona – that was AWESOME! She made some really good points there, about Portugal and about life. I will go back to that interview several times in the future, just to remind me what it's all about. My new guru, sort of.
As for changing your lifestile, don't do things that you will not be able to keep up for the future, you don't have to be so radical, do the small changes and stick to them. Good luck!

    9. Lovely mindful thoughts from Fiona during the interview. Great ride too…well done Nick!
BTW, also try to limit snacking between meals so that your body can hit the reserves instead.

    10. Great video Nick. I am looking to make a move hopefully next year to Spain to enjoy some nice rides too to help me get back in shape. Exercise is more fun with the distraction of nature.

    11. You probaby have a good explanation… but I still wonder

Why on earth would someone cycle 42km in the mountains… with a big bag on is back? 🤔🤔🤔🤔

It wasn't food… because you went to the restaurant
      It wasn't a tent… because you didn't camp
      Uuuh the mistery

    12. good vid 🙂 used to own a bicycle shop so fun to see the bicycle stuff !
looking into retiring out that way somewhere ! the Hawaiian islands are to much $$$$ these days and not as many opportunities for our kids etc..

look into carnivore 🙂 YT Dr Chaffee or Dr Shawn baker or Dr Ken Berry from a girls perspective myzerocarblife or Laura spath
as a 59yr old male still in the prime I was in my 20s for no soar joint pain when riding insane hard etc.. also weight and size is the same as my 20s 30s etc. truly life changing 🙂

    13. So if you did 42 k bike ride, then that’s 26.2 miles, and that’s a marathon distance, so you can say you did a marathon bike ride! Now that sounds good! 😊

    14. Echappee could only from strength to strength with Fiona at the helm , what truly super organiser and tour guide for all things cycling in the Algarve.
      100% DIAMOND.

    15. Fantastic!! My SIL who cycles in the Algarve all the time took me to that great cycling cafe last summer followed by a trip to that fountain and swimming area. It was lovely to see all the families enjoying a day in the sun.
