I think if one is content with oneself and perfectly fine living alone they may not need marriage but if one needs a campanion and share his feelings will go for a marriage.
What I think of marriage in my opinion in this day and age.
1. Getting married is like cutting down one's freedom. These days most marriages run like a business. There is no love. Its purely transactional.
2. A man is more like to lose his wealth during the divorce and it can be extremly stressful.
3. It's is not easy to live with only one person all his life can be boring. Initially when the honeymoon phase over. Eventually one will get bored. Unlike 100 years ago when there was no social media presence.
4. Raising kids is not a joke. It can get extremly stressful. Even to raise a pet it costs a lot of money and let alone a human being.
I also recently thought of going to the university, but then realized I should focus on making more money instead or learn a new skill. Having multiple skills at your disposal more valuable than getting a degree. It's good that you know cooking. Having a different set of skills really useful. The more skills one master the more independent one becomes. Such as fixing house electricity, repairing leaks in the house, cooking, cleaning, fixing a bike, coding, etc.
