The Dutch city of Nijmegen is located close to the German border and is the oldest city in The Netherlands (records show its existence over 2000 years ago).

On this tour we will explore this ancient city, discovering the impact generations of people have made upon the centre. The Romans, Franks, Vikings and even Germans, all left their mark on Nijmegen.

From city walls, to guild halls, to a maiden seduced by a devil, I will tell you all about these places and much more. So let’s explore Ancient Nijmegen together.

  1. A city with such a long and interesting history – and some beautiful buildings that have survived so much of it. A fascinating tour. Thank you.

  2. Hi Stephan, I had to jump off the tour after some minutes but followed up on it now. Would you reveal why you like the three xxx so much? By the way, I think I have been visiting Nijmegen with primary school and i remember that we had been to a bible museum (open air). Is that still existing?

  3. Stephan , that was a lovely tour yesterday evening, in my hometown Nijmegen . I even learnt a few things I didn;t know ( have been living here for 38 years ) . You made me laugh when you said something like '"Nijmegen has a lot of communists" . I don't think there are many left nowadays, haha. But you are right that the city has a tradition of left-wing local governments in the last couple of decades . Dank je wel voor een leuke tour . Kom nog eens terug !
