We spend a full morning exploring the streets, walls, and towers of the medieval Old Town of TALLIN, ESTONIA. The highlight for me was our climb up to the top of the Town Hall tower on the market square – built in 1404.

    1. The old town houses with the pulley/winch system on the upper floor and stone stairs in front are merchant houses that would have belonged to specific merchant families. The headstones bear the family symbol or coat of arms. The goods the merchant traded in would be stored on the upper floor in order to protect them from moisture and theft.
