A group of cyclists were filmed and stopped by police officers after being seen riding at nearly 40mph down a 30mph road in Devon.
While speed limits do not apply to cyclists, Devon and Cornwall’s Roads Policing Team explained they were asked “to be mindful” of their speed and how this could affect a collision.
Throughout the 30-second clip, the cyclists can be seen speeding down winded roads and through pedestrian crossings shortly after 9.30am yesterday morning.

So basically the police recorded themselves speeding 😂
(1) Speed limits do not apply to cyclists. (2) Speed limits are not enforceable on vehicles unequipped with speedometers.
Cyclists are not subject to the speed limits like cars are they are not using a powered motor, but they should be held to the same accountability and speed restrictions as motor vehicles, law needs to change.
We cyclists will always be faster police pull me over all the time but can do nothing. Dont have a speed meter on bike . I tell them i going as fast as the car in frount of me 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
So what they gona start doing now telling people they can't use there legs 😂

Kinda typical really. They ignore dismount signs, ride through red temp lights and if a light is red they just ride on the path instead of waiting. Not all cyclists are like this to be fair, but theres a lot and I think the rules need a revision. Idk if their on the road then stay on the road, if their on the paths then stay on the paths. Ive had a few close calls with cyclists not looking and jumping from path to road -_-
With the speeding though, unless they have a speedometer on their bike, i doubt theyd know their speed. Unless ofc they are overtaking car, by that point its obvious.
Very misleading headline, speed limits apply only to motor vehicles.

Any man or woman over the age of 17 must carry insurance; license; mot; road tax; number plate ,for any machine that is : peddle; car; van; wheels; etc.. and be liable for their actions or inactions of wrongdoing to another man or woman or property.

They're not. I was told that there is no speed limit for cyclists, I didn't believe it but on checking the highway code I found it to be true.

They don’t have to adhere to the speed laws of a car as there is no licence or insurance needed to ride a non motor propelled vehicle on the road .

You'd expect the police to know the speed limits relate to motor vehicles. Of which a bicycle isn't! Not saying it's right, just saying there's a gap in the law.
It should be illegal and prosecutable . In 2013 a little girl was hit and killed by a cyclist on a pedestrian crossing in Bournemouth. He was doing the speed limit so these cyclists are totally irresponsible if they think they won't do any harm. Sadly our police force are not given the support and infrastructure to police situations properly across the board.
