Day 3 of my Alpine Adventure.

I woke up to a dry and cloudy morning (rain had been forecast but thankfully didn’t materialise) and decided to head over the border to Austria.

I walked past the village of Planken and through the forest to the medieval town of Feldkirch, the most westerly town in Austria. After a pleasant couple of hours wandering around and enough caffeine to wake the dead (prices are much cheaper in Austria than Switzerland or Liechtenstein) I made my way back to Liechtenstein’s Schellenburg Castle and from there to the River Rhine border crossing with Switzerland.

The other noticeable thing about Austria was everybody wearing facemasks, whereas in Switzerland maybe 1 in 10 were wearing them.

From there I had an extremely wet 7 mile walk along the river to Buchs where I caught the train back to Zurich.

All in all it was a great day’s hiking, apart from the river walk at the end but I was just grateful that the heavens opened on that last stretch and not whilst I was up a mountain miles from shelter and civilisation 😆

    1. That was an epic day, three countries, passing in and out of Europe with ease! So glad you got a good sleep that night, im not sure how you managed it with that storm on the horizon, you must have had a great deal of confidence that the opposite mountain range would hold it! Those poo bag dispensing bins are quite popular in some European countries, great idea, especially if there are enough bins. That last section in the pouring rain next to a dual carriageway looked a little rough, but i bet you soon dried off on the train! Epic adventure. Safe travels! 👍

    2. This is a beautiful video, fantastically captured trail and surroundings. Narrated part is just fantastic.👌👌👌👌🎥🎥

    3. Great video mate, especially the bit at the end, when it was lovely weather all along, and you got drenched at the end 🤣🤣 low point, there were no food reviews 😒 but I won't hold that against you 😉

    4. Beautiful! Doggie friendly too…always the best! Love the views, not so much the rain, but you have to deal what you are given. Gotta love those unprotected borders. Awesome and epic adventure! Bruce and Otis

    8. Great video, although I didn't visit this area of Liechtenstein and Austria it did bring back a lot of good memories from visiting the area in 2017. Love the peace and tranquillity early in the morning, and it always feels good to walk from one country to another.
