*Fat man, Tiny Bike, Roams Ireland !*
Preparations and leaving home on my wholly self indulgent septuagenarian challenge; to ride my little 2-stroke Yamaha YB100 motorbike from The Cotswolds to Fishguard (Wales) and taking the ferry to Rosslare (Ireland), then a road trip around the coast of Ireland (anti-clockwise) with absolutely no mechanical knowledge whatsoever !
This video briefly shows my preparations and departure. I will be taking GoPro and Drone footage on route but none of this will be posted until after I (eventually) return home!!
Throughout the past 2+ awful years, I have enjoyed and been inspired by people who I have followed on YouTube who have actually gone out there and done something!! One of the couples sailing around the world – Dan and Kika from “Sailing Uma” have a motto – “DON’T BUY A COUCH”!! Thats easy to say but after being inspired by other sailors “Sailing Yacht Florence” and Sailing Zatara” (I have never really been interested in sailing!!) as well as my other interest – motorcycling, I have been inspired to get off my arse and do something memorable. Favourite motorcyclist channels are “Itchy Boots”, “Got2Go” and “Million Dollar Bogan” – I respect these guys!
Not that what I am doing scratches the surface of what those guys had done but at least its a rather late start on my part 😄
I am anticipating vile weather in rainy Ireland – at least for the first week so I hope I make it! To use Daniel Hayes’ (Million Dollar Bogan) expression, its all about perseverance and “living the dream”! Very true.
Wish me luck – I will be posting my daily plan and progress on my blog:

best of luck to you!
Look forward to your Vlogs Rob, sounds like a great trip and a challenge for the bike.😊👍
Wishing you well Rob, on your first leg of the journey.
When you started the bike it brought back great memories for me. A very familiar sound of my youth in London. Good luck on your journey and I look forward to following your progress.
Good on ya. Hope you have a great time, and looking forward to your edited videos when you get back.
Waiting, waiting everything we can see and read! Your challenge is inspiring! Luck, luck, luck !
Did the same many years ago on a little CZ175, spent two weeks hugging the coast in total. If you can take in the Ards peninsula around Strangford lough in Co Down do so, some amazing scenery in that area and good roads.
Oh, that's music to my ears..brings back a lot of sweet memories…100cc Yamaha!!!
Was fun riding with you from Carmarthen over the Preseli hills and down into Fishguard, hope the weather is on your side over in the Emerald Isle.
Brave man Rob! Did you edit out the part where you found room for the toaster? 😉
I spotted this big crazy guy on a tiny 2 stroke bike riding thru Llandovery earlier today and thought "who's that nut?!"
Well, of course it's Rob off youtube!
