This 80km (50mile) road bike route to the Costa Brava from Girona is a dream ride. The corniche section where the road clings to the coastline, with extensive views of the Mediterranean, is possibly one of the most enjoyable and spectacular bike rides you will ever do. The Route Guide takes you out of Girona on the quietest back roads to the town of LLagostera. From there it’s on to the resort of Tossa de Mar, a beautiful medieval town built around its perfectly preserved castle. Here the Coastal Loop begins in earnest with the section of road to the turn off to the Sant Grau monastery one which will live long in the memory. The climb to the monastery up a series of switchbacks tests the legs but is also a feast for the eyes. A long descent follows back to Llagostera before picking up the route out for the final 20km back to Girona.

  1. Hey, thank you for the many great routes and tips. I found an alternative – more gravel like – route back to Girona via Cassa de la Selva. Do you have experience with that? Would it be manageable with a road bike?

  2. you missed the rest of the coastal rides to Sant Guixols, you can either come back to Grau (which is an exposed climb mid day) or work north from Guixols back to Girona (their are several).

  3. Thanks so much for your videos. Me and my mate road for 4 days in Girona and we used 3 of your routes as our guide. My favorite by far was the Coastal Loop with Els Angels a close second. Hope you can keep posting more videos. We plan to return to Girona next year and do more riding days. Keep up the great work. Cheers !
