Joint Paint Protector yay/nay?

I was shopping for the ez clamp springs and noticed these on the Kusac site.

It looks reasonable for preventing wear at the clamps.

I have a lacquer model so I'm concerned about rust creeping under the finish.

These seem like a natural consideration but is there a reason I should avoid them?

I understand the clamps are load bearing. Could any flex imposed by these guards put undue stress on the hinge pin?

The only reason I wouldn't want them is if using them could cause unwanted stress on the frame.
