I needed to remove my cassette and disc brake rotor (all Shimano). Everything's ready to go back on the bike and I see this part lying on the floor.

I can't make it fit into the cassette or onto the hub spindle/shaft. It doesn't seem a natural fit for the disc brake rotor parts.
It's possible it fell off a tool.

Do you recognise it/know where it goes?

  1. Spacer for behind the cassette. Often used to make an 11 speed casette fit on a hub that also accomodates 12 speed casettes.

    Don’t lose it :))

I got these rings for my Shimano HG700 and HG800 cassettes. I usually put them on the hub before installing the 11-speed cassette.

  3. It’s a cassette spacer. There are different use cases for them. They can get used to fit an 11 speed mtb cassette on a road freehub for example. My grx 11-34 cassette for example comes with this spacer because it has the measurements of a mtb cassette but is advertised to fit on a road freehub.

  4. Cassette spacer is correct. You have to turn this until it matches up with the hub. If you look carefully you will see the cassettes have different sized gaps, from small to large that must be aligned with the corresponding gaps on the hub.
