Looking at maybe getting this old trek to finally get a single speed bike. Just wondering if it’s worth it or not as this would be my first time buying a used bike

  1. Seems fair. Beautiful old bike in nice condition. Resto-modded as a SS. Seems fair price. You could probably find a comparable, no-name, new build around the same price but it won’t have that …steez? Drip?

  2. no way to tell for sure from the photos but that bike has a lot of fixed gear aesthetics going on (and what looks like a track bike rear wheel) so it wouldn’t surprise me if it is a fixed hear rather than just a single speed. otherwise the bike looks well taken care of so that’s probably a fair price.

Those gatorskin tires alone cost a pretty penny, although the front is mounted backwards though

  4. The price is very fair, it looks clean and if it fits you, probably more than worth it, if that’s what you want. If you’re new to this stuff, in the future, you might wish you had a rear hub that’s fixed one side and freewheel on the other side.

The frame does look spray painted and I’d probably pass on that fact alone, but I have too many bikes already

  5. If you’re looking to get a fixed gear I would get a frame with horizontal dropouts so you can switch your ratio if your prefer. That looks like a pretty big gear to start with, and you might not be able to find another magic ratio that keeps the chain tension in smaller gear inches. Personally I wouldn’t buy this bike.
