I just got my first bash guard for my first full suspension bike.

Using my powers of deduction, I’m thinking the small piece goes behind the external bottom bracket in lieu of the spacer that is there and then using the provided nuts and bolts, attach the bash guard and then slide the spindle through the hole as normal.

Am I missing anything?

I will add that I paid $100 for the bike as a platform to learn to ride, wrench and modify on, so have to throw away the seven dollar bash guard, que sera, sera

  1. You’re correct, but only if your frame doesn’t already have iscg tabs.

    If you have tabs you can bolt directly to it and skip the adaptor.

  2. This chain guard thing is meant for 1x bikes. It won’t work with a bike that has a front derailleur.

  3. Oh I don’t think that’ll work with a 3x setup in the front. The front derailleur is your chain guide. With this guide you won’t be able to shift the front derailleur or even have a front derailleur. It’s for a 1x setup. Also for the bash ring part, make sure the frame has iscg tabs on the bb. I used to have an iron horse mk and had to use a mount for a bash guard that essentially was sandwiched between the bb shell and the bb itself. Again that was on a 1x front setup.

    Yup, if you’re going 1x
    * Install guard on provided 3 tab spacer

    * pull your cranks and BB
    * Install provided spacer and guard instead of one of the BB spacers
    * Remove chainrings, install new 1x ring
    * Install cranks
    * Reroute chain, top guard goes over ring, idler pulley goes under chain. The top guard and idler should be adjustable.
