Just finished rebuilding this old Tequesta I got for $20. On a whim, and spurred by the recent holiday, International Single Speed Day, I decided to go for a 3×1. Had the Melvin tensioner from another build that worked nicely! And yes, the Melvin costs more than the entire bike combined, hah.
Cleaned and repacked the headset and hubs
Fresh bottom bracket
Local coop chainrings (24/34/44), paired with a Shimano BMX cog (18t)
Cheap craigslist vbrakes & levers
Suntour friction shifter
Sycip Singles Bars
Maxxis Ikon
Pretty happy to say it rips! Took it on a shakedown ride with lots of single and double track, and had a blast. Turns out 3 is all you need?
