I recently bought a marin rear wheel. The seller said it was a 10 speed 135mm qr wheel. I should have done more research and taken a closer look at the wheel when I bought it. Turns out the hub which is shimano fh mt200 b is a 141. Yet some how it fits in the 135mm drop outs of my rei drt 1.1 without any spreading. The other weird thing is the cassette cogs 3 and 4 have no clearance. It does not seem bent, but there seems to be no space for a spacer. I'm wondering if it was a 9 speed they squeezed a 10th on, or if there is room for a spacer that I am not aware of. Was wondering if anyone might have some insight.

What makes you say it’s 141 or 135? If it fits in a 135 mm dropout, then it sounds like it’s 135. But you could easily measure your dropout spacing with a ruler and the over-locknut distance of the hub with calipers.

What do you mean when you say cogs 3 and 4 have no clearance. Clearance to what? Are they hitting something? It looks as I would expect it to look, unless I’m missing something.

  2. It is possible the axle was replaced to make it 135mm. No way to know for sure unless you measure it. Or measure your frame because maybe it opens up slightly when the QR is opened.

Regarding 3 and 4, yeah, that is missing a spacer. 9 and 10 speed cassettes are the same width, so yes, you are missing a spacer. Not sure if the gears are narrower in addtion to the space between gears are narrower.
