Is this video supposed to be a good thing? There is no exceptions, one reason we have these rules is that personal issues don't affect sportsmanship. Very bad video.
No matter how much you hate your opponent. Shake hands does not mean that you like the other person, it means that you oblige to the rules of sportsmanship. Disrespectful and awkward. Every athlete knows. Everyone who states otherwise does not do sports. And I am not supporting Russias act of war in the Ukraine.
Call me crazy, but I think someone else told her not to shake hands with the other girl. Personally, I don’t think it’s a big deal, but then again I don’t care about sports.
The Olympics is a world wide sport. Its not about your personal feelings, when you compete, you keep your problems out of it. For her to not shake hands with the other girl who literally did NOTHING wrong is unsportsmanlike
Olga Harlan Refused to Shake Hands because of the War-Declared Country's Player who competed. The War-Declared Country should be banned from the Olympic Games and every sport.
How pathetic, she should of being DQ. Nobody chooses where they from. Russia have amazing people, like everywhere else, doesn't mean they agree with their politics.
Fun fact – she wanted to shake hands with the Russian athlete but the US Olympic committee told her there is no shaking hands with Russian athletes, promising to provide her with all the sabres to rattle with her opponents she could need and forcing her into this conflict with the Russian athlete.
I agree with the Ukrainian athlete not to shake hands in that moment. The better display of sportsmanship would have been if the Russian athlete asked if the Ukrainian athlete wanted to shake hands, and then kindly respecting the Ukrainian athlete’s decision whatever it may be. It is about giving grace and love and understanding to those who have been most harmed. Sportsmanship is an ideal. Peace is an ideal. War is someone’s reality.

Boo poor sportmanship
Ukraine has more right to piss off at Russia than those Palestinian cry babies
What do you mean”after the war”? My friends are still at war and fighting every day. 👍
This just goes to finally prove that, the IOC is nothing more than a political pawn. The Olympics are done as a credible sporting event.

Nah that’s kinda racist ngl
Cheesy music. A.I voice. Shaking her hand is showing her love. That Russian obviously has empathy.
Russians aren't bad people they are just ran by a person who if I talked negatively about he would promptly nuke my house

She's not a soldier, she's an athlete. Should have stayed disqualified.

She should have been disqualified. The "exception" was ridiculous. A person can't choose where they're born.
So they broke the rules and let her cheat.
Europeans are so funny
