This was my bike as a teenager… About 30 years ago. An hypermarket bike of brand "Top Bike" (sold at Carrefour stores in France)… Just finished renovating it.
I stripped it out to the bare frame, cleaned everything inside and out then rebuilt it.
All the parts are stock, even the tires! I just swapped the original silver handlebar with a black one having a bit more rise and moved the bar ends inside of the grips to provide a more aero position, and still keep access to the commands. Almost as good as drop bars.
It has a 3×6 Shimano drivetrain, Tange 1000 MTB plain-gauge chromoly frame and fork, unbranded crankset and cantilever brakes. Surprisingly good value without plastic parts… And now it rides great!

Needs a bit more spit on it.
How did you go about buffing? I have one stripped but not polished nearly as well
Your original bike looks like it needs to be ridden like it was stolen.
Sharp.
