I was planning to buy a new Domane AL 2 Gen 4 this weekend, but this 2022 AL 3 popped up on FB Marketplace. Assuming it’s in good shape, I feel like the Sora 9 speed vs. Claris 8 speed would be a little better. This is for casual riding on local bike paths with some occasional hills — nothing too challenging because I’m out of shape and hate hills! 🤣 — but I feel like this is little more likely to offer a gear that feels right when I need it.
Any reason not to consider this?
The seller is asking $800, reduced from $850 according to the listing. I suspect that’s a bit high, but if it’s in good shape I think I really want this bike. What’s the most you would offer?
(I know, a new AL 4 would be ideal, but I can’t afford it.)
Thanks!

The right size is more important, but beyond that, the used one sounds like a good deal as long as everything’s in working order. Number of gears doesn’t make a huge difference, especially for casual riding and when comparing an 8 to a 9 speed.
I have the 2023 Al2 Gen4 and it’s an 8-speed claris and it has carried me through several imperial centuries.
