I had my Reynolds 520 chrome-moly steel frame media blasted with glass beads in preparation for a repaint, and it looks great. I have some 2k epoxy primer and 2k clear coat on the way, and am still deciding on a Montana Gold color….

Anyway, the first few inches inside of the seat tube got blasted a bit. What should I do about this, if anything? Does it make sense to give the inside of the seat tube a quick spray with the primer and clear coat?

I am going to leave the bottom bracket in during the painting, but was thinking about putting a seat post in the frame for clamping purposes. Is that a bad idea? I was basically told the blasted frame will rust very quickly without primer.

  1. No, the correct size seatpost won’t fit if you do that.
You can and should keep it greased though.
For the rest of the tubing you can boil linseed oil and coat the inside just don’t let it set anywhere with threads or the head tube.
