A little about Ed….
Ed is an elite cyclist, 2019 British Hill Climb Champion and former Under 23 British RR Champion. He has raced as a Continental level Professional Rider for one of the most successful British cycling teams in Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada, Azerbaijan to name a few. He is also a public speaker, coach, and founded the on/offline cycling community, Backpedal. At the start of 2021, the Discord community began, and plonked many of Ed’s viewers in to a 550+ strong group of people that had many things in common. Not least wanting to explore the world and pedal their bikes faster!

Ed coaches lots of cyclists in the online community too! If you are interested, email [laverackcoaching@yahoo.com] for information on the 1-2-1 coaching package and training plans, of which there are many and flexible options to suit everyone!

Ed now prioritises having fun with my hard earned fitness and knowledge in the sport. Showcasing that maybe there is an alternative to racing for teams when you can race for yourself and your community of followers and brands. This YouTube channel is a docu-series highlighting what it’s like to be a cyclist in today’s competitive age of sport.

  1. A mate and I did the 312 route on Fri. I think for both of us the early morning section up Femenia which was empty and watching the sun creep up was the best bit but the north coast is always a treat. Around Sa Pobla it feels like the route is just avoiding populated areas but there are some fairly cool lanes later on before the thrash back north. There's currently a section of road missing somewhere near Petra which was interesting…πŸ˜‚

  2. Fave 312 bits; 1) whole of the first 30-odd kms … setting off with that many riders was such a buzz, leading up to the 1st climb. 2) the coastal section after Valldemossa and the final bumps before then dropping down to the plains. 3) Platja de Muro area, sense of what’s possible firming up.

Great experience, but feeling increasingly like a victim of its own success?

  3. I spent a week staying and riding out of Deia a couple of years back. Loved it…wonderful part of the island to base a riding holiday from

  4. As a Mallorcan resident I believe the 312 is past it's use by date. I've done it 5 times. But no more. It is now far too big. The start is chaos – no ranking by expected speed – so unless you turn up at 5am you will have 4000+ riders ahead of you – it will take you 20-25' just to cross the start. If you are a fast rider it will mean fir the next xx hours you will be weaving through endless slow riders which is really quite dangerous. If you are a slow rider the time lost at the start will mean you likely struggle to meet the time cut. The excess of riders also means every aid station is total chaos – making that time cut ever more unattainable. They really need to reduce total numbers and speed grade the start so the fastest riders start up front and the slower riders further back – better for everybody this way.

  5. Got a place in Calvia Village. Great place to start rides from. I do those two climbs – Galilea and Es Grau most days. Beautiful scenery and roads and hard climbing. 312 is fabulous – the buzz of 8000 people setting off together with music and applause is amazing. Got my entry for 2025 and training has already started…

  6. When you did Galilea you missed one of the best stops anywhere. Cafe sa Placa de Galilea. It's in the square by the church. Try to get a table on the terrace with a view over the whole of the south of the Island. Magical.
Good food and not too expensive too.
