  1. I don’t know much about collective BMX, but I will say two things.

The frame being aluminum worries me a *little” but he’s 6. That bike will not be likely to break under a 6 year old.

The rest of the specs read nicely enough for a 6 year old, though they don’t go into whether or not the bearings on the hubs, cranks and so on are sealed- something comparable bikes in the price range (depending on where you’re buying and how much, I’m going based on us retail) should have as a default.

I am concerned there’s no information out there about dropout sizes, bottom bracket sizes, etc- but that’s advanced level stuff that PROBABLY isn’t going to be an issue for you. I did see one other place mentioning that some of their other bikes have greatly inferior load outs compared to others in the same category (though not specifically a 16) so that could be an issue.

Other bikes to consider in that size range

Any of these would be EXCELLENT starters and last a good long time.

  2. FloridaCelticFC on

It looks like a decent bike. The aluminum frame will keep weight down a little which is good.
I’d say if you can spend more buy a Cult Juvi 16 or Fit Misfit 16.
But I’d look for a used one. My kid’s got a nice little Haro I got for $20 in near new condition on FB marketplace.
I just found a nice 16″ Huffy on trash day. Needed a new set of pedals and that was it. Gave it to a kid at the park my son plays with and she was riding it in less than 5 minutes.

  3. Ok so tbh, uk based myself, we don’t recommend anything from collective as it’s for the same stable as mafia, there cheaply made Chinese kit bikes, so spares and servicing can be an issue, and the warranty I non existent. But and only tentatively for kids bikes it’s not as big an issue as the full sized bikes as their shelf life is relatively short. We recommend the cult juvenile 16” and radio dice 16” in alloy framed bikes. Higher end, we the people crs and a few others. Also worth noting, the collective is on “sale” but that rrp almost never existed as that would’ve been overpriced massively compared to other brands.
