I am shopping for a older free ride bike and I found one with relatively modern geometry. There is a scratch or crack you can see near the head tube going perpendicular to the protective wrap. The seller thinks it might be a clear coat crack and doesn’t know if it is structural. He wants to try and Warranty the frame before selling me the bike because of this. What do you guys think it is, how bad is it in your opinion, and what questions should I ask? Thank you all!

Probably just cosmetic, but I wouldn’t deal with the hassle on a used bike. Too many great deals out there at the moment.

The questions you need to ask are if you like your collarbone where it is and your jaw and your teeth… if that snaps there you are going to eat shit so hard… not worth the risk at all

I don’t see any cracks in any of these photos…I see a scratch to the top coat, possibly? Take a coin and tap it against the frame all around there. If it feels hollow and/or makes a dead sound when you tap there it might be a crack. I don’t see anything in these that I’d be concerned about but if the seller says they see a crack, I’d do my due diligence and really inspect it closely.
