  1. We probably would not be a country without the French. Likely France wouldn't be a country without America. I am going to France next spring and will be dusting off the 7th grade French that I didn't learn in 7th grade.

  2. Great advice, especially Bonjour, Merci, Au Revoir, and don't automatically assume that the French person will speak English . . . basically simple manners and respect for the people who's country you are visiting.

  3. French accent?.
The French accent is the most charming in the world. It sound like heaven, to the ears!
I would know a thing or two about accents.
    Because I am german.
And noone has ever said something like that about our accent 😜

  4. Colmar is beautiful! One thing to understand is that while people there are proud to be French, the food and customs are more influenced by German and Swiss cultures. In Europe, it's important to recognize that different regions, even within the same country, have their own unique idiosyncrasies, and sometimes even different languages. Avoid stereotyping, as it can be quite frustrating for locals. I'm from Barranquilla, Colombia, and one thing that really bothers me is when foreigners assume we are the same as Colombians from Bogotá or Medellín. For some of us, it's even insulting! P.s. The French society was a real hero during WWII! If only the rest of Europe, while being occupied, had the same endurance, resiliense and resistance that the French Had! Please don't insult them with that!

  5. In a café or restaurant, or in every close public place, you can't smoke inside. It's forbidden by law. But you can smoke outside, on the terrace for example.

  6. Just one question. Let's just say I can't eat anything with pork, or alcohol based on religious reasons (e.g. halal or kosher), but I'm eager to try French food. I could definitely take cheese. Though would the local restaurant get offended for refusing dishes that contain pork or alcohol that they serve, and that I want to have something else?

  7. N. B. The French did not "lose" WW II.
On the other hand, USA did lose Vietnam and Afghanistan. You shur did wip sum butt in Grenada, tho.
So, remember, people who live in glass armies should not throw stones.

  8. I need to plan a trip to France but already have things to worry about. I’m a severe introvert and have trouble speaking up in person even when I know I should. My daughter is a picky eater. It’s very rare that she orders a meal without requesting modifications. These things worry me .
