I have yet to lock mine up outside, very worried about something like that happening to mine. Sorry dude that really sucks.

  2. Never, ever leave a Brompton locked up outside anywhere in London. Thieves know how valuable and easily sellable they are. You were very fortunate.

  3. i have told many people before but in London, locking Brompton up outside is a charity work to the thief. u were lucky the thief didnt bring the hand grinder with him/her, or else, bye bye Brompton.

  4. Why would you ever locking up your Brompton outside? Isnt that the whole idea of a Brompton to take it with you all the time?

A lot of victim blaming going on here.

You can give advice on how to avoid this in the future without making out that it’s the owners fault they had parts stolen.

Sorry you had something stolen, I’m glad you still have most of the bike!

I glued some ball bearing in my saddle clip. Not the best, but it beats a cable lock for those quick in/outs

  7. I’m sorry someone stole your seat, that is very annoying. I’m going to assume it was an expensive seat.

You are allowed to lock your bike outside, it is not against the law of owning a Brompton!

Going forward, you can get a hex lock for your seatpost (I have the extended one too, so it’s easy release for the seat) and you can get one for the seat itself.

[https://hexlox.com/pages/protect-seat-post-clamps-with-hex-bolts](https://hexlox.com/pages/protect-seat-post-clamps-with-hex-bolts) . It is expensive but means a thief won’t be able to steal so easily.

    Good luck!

If you posted this in the London sub you would be downvoted for daring to suggest that London is unsafe and law enforcement is dysfunctional.

  9. I know it isn’t the most secure lock, but I like the ABUS 75cm folding locks because it fits unobtrusively between the seat tube and the rear triangle. If I have to lock it (rare), I think locking it folded with the [lock passing through both the frame triangle and seat rails](https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/53629851956_790204f969_o.png) is most secure. Locking the seat down make is difficult to unfold the bike, which in turn also makes it difficult to access the wheel axle bolts somewhat protecting the wheels.

  10. My college library let me stash my bike near their front counter, near a checkout clerk. As long as I came back to claim it before closing it was not a problem
