HS2 – A418 Oxford Road, Aylesbury – ALMOST THERE! | 1st Nov 2024
With only a couple of days to go the A418 Oxford Road at Aylesbury is almost ready to open. Tarmac crews are working hard to get everything done on time.

Many years ago I used to cycle into Huddersfield every day and watched the building of the inner ring road, for months there didn't seem to be anything but mud and bits of concrete. Then one day hardcore was down and the next day tarmac.
Thanks, Karl Your updates are very useful for me. I live close close by, and the diversion via Waddesdon to get to Haddenham/Thame, is a right pain in the a..e.
I am almost surprised that they didn’t take the opportunity to extend the A413 Wendover Bypass along the side of HS2 to create a western bypass for Aylesbury. I would imagine that there could well of been some economy of scale as well as minimising disruption by undertaking two projects side-by-side. Only almost surprised though as our record on intergrsted travel infrastructure is not great.

not much space between the road and cycleway!
I wonder why they didn't put a temporary road in and put the bridge on the original alignment. Ah well, I guess my KOM is safe…
Streetlights have to go in after all the levels are finished as they would just get in the way.
Thanks, Karl

Mind you don't get knocked off your bike Monday with all the sightseers all heading that way for a look!
I heard a rumour the road has been reopened 3 days early (today, Nov 1)
The sooner this destructive nightmare ends, the better. Fwiw, the street lighting on the old section was turned off years ago.
There is no lighting on the old road so none on the new? Great update.

Thanks Karl, i always look forward to your updates.
They seem to have achieved quite a lot since your last video
It is against the law to cycle on a footpath !
You mentioned no street lights on new section and then rode down the old section and there are no street lights there.
The old road didn't have street lighting. That was part of the street lighting switch off years ago.
Roll on Monday then. Cheers for keeping us posted, Karl 👍
The concreting of England.
All for saving 20 mins from the edge of London to the edge of Birmingham.
Shameful.
Thanks for the update Karl
