David Maw became World Champion for the third time at the 1986 IBMXF World Championships in Slough, England. David won multiple British titles across both UKBMX and NBMXA throughout the ’80s. He also claimed European titles and was a three-time World Champion, with victories in Japan (1984), Canada (1985), and Slough, England (1986). Tragically, David lost his life in a car accident at just 19 years old, but his legacy endures.
In 2022, David was inducted into the British BMX Hall of Fame. Along with his family, who continue to support the British BMX Hall of Fame in honor of his name and legacy, the David Maw Lifetime Achievement Award was established as a permanent category in the Hall of Fame. Both Andy Ruffell and Scott Dick were inducted in this category in 2023.
