The Col du Tourmalet is the most famous climb in the Pyrenees, so we decided to give it a go. We continued our trip west to the heart of the French Pyrenees, and on day 1 set out on the most ridiculous 19km / 1400m climb we’ve ever ridden.

    1. Nice! For me, that kind of ride may be more difficult than a longer flat(er) ride, but I would rather do that. The hardest/most self-rewarding accomplishment ride I've done was the ~72 mile ride from sea level to 10,025ft atop Haleakala (basically 36mi uphill and back down). Had a great weather day, and being really able see/enjoy what you've accomplished (and literally riding through the clouds) with the downhill bonus (but yes, chilly at first)
