  1. And all the pros win TDF, Vuelta, Giro and what not on disk break bikes, how is that possible – and, they win in times never seen before. For sure they must dope up to the eyebrows to make up for the disk break disadvantage. You are just picking little niches where you think your beloved rim breaks from the past are maybe faster.

  2. For me the only drawback of rim brakes are they eventually wear out the wheel rims. But disc brake rim walls tend to be lighter and less robust, so they eventually fail under general stress and impacts anyway.

  3. In an old slovenian documentary tadej breaks it down: if you want better braking in the wet, go disc, but if you are seeking that performance gains and are looking for time to gain on climbs, go rim for performance. Looking forward to tadej riding the new rb c68 on summit finishes next year

  4. Durian I was the there sunday and mostly rim brake bikes Harry Hudson best junior and a overall champion soon.Hatty Mac just doesn't give a fck animal rider. Illi Gardner trains in the hills next to where I live in Cardiff south Wales she's incredible rider takes all the Qoms.

  5. Wouldn't they run with no brakes if they were allowed to do it? They run with rim brakes because they're lighter, right? On a hill climb you're not actually using them.

  6. And good work, Harley, for telling us about this, great to see a rider playing for the love of the game on a bike from the used marketplace. When better you know faster you go. 😀

  7. Bet feather could hear those discs go sching sching all the way up the hill that little bit of drag of the discs hitting the pad probably made the difference.

  8. The use case for disc brakes is foul weather riding when you're not going fast in any case and you don't want to expose your rim bike to rapid wear from the elements, although truth be told I'll probably just swap out the carbon pads on my cyclocross bike with cantilevered rim brakes for alloy pads and throw on in the alloy cross wheels to deal with riding in winter muck.

  9. This is perhaps the best demonstration of the superiority of rim brakes in elite racing I've ever seen. Feather's race weight is normally around 63 kg, so he averaged about 9.6 w/kg (607 watts), whereas Macfarlane averaged 8.8 w/kg (69 kg and 610 watts). Time for Feather to dust off his Hi-Mod. Congrats to Macfarlane for keeping it real and not selling out.

  10. Ran the numbers and Andrew could have saved ~1.3 seconds from weight by switching over to his rim brake super six. to win Andrew would need a ~4.4kg bike which would be easy and (relatively) cheap to accomplish with rim brakes.
