Rebuilding the Heartsease roundabout in the north-east of Norwich is now complete. The campaign was able to get a lot of improvements to the original design, although not the full “Dutch” style we wanted.

This ride-through was recorded a few days after opening and shows how well the new design works. It is certainly a massive improvement on the mess that existed before.

  1. It’s an easy way to retrofit Dutch roundabouts to UK roads without much capital expenditure. The clarity of the crossings definitely helps imply cycles have priority.

  2. Counterclockwise seems better for cyclist's to see approaching vehicles. Overall traffic speeds seem reasonable to give way. How about cycling on the carriageway too?

  3. The only issue I can see with it is if a cyclist goes counter-clock wise and doesn't give an arm signal it can be hard to tell if they'll turn to use the crossing or not. I feel like adding some small planters to get cyclists to turn in a little bit more of an arc before crossing would make it a bit safer.

  4. This is great! An idiot trying prove what point? That he can ride out in front of traffic, cycle where pedestrians are trying to walk?? This was on a quiet day, do that on a normal morning rush hour and you’d be having some very angry comments…from all other road and footpath users!

  5. What an absolute joke 10 cycling accidents in 30 years lol And look what they do. Do they really think these cyclists will be sensible when using these cycle lanes when most can't even be bothered to use lights at night! Oh no!
