Basel is an extremely bike friendly town and boasts over 250 sign posted bike routes in an around the city. There is so much choice that all types of cyclists will find routes that match their tastes and style of cycling, from family tours to great road and mountain bike routes. If you are keen road cyclists you can head out to ride a route that is known by locals as the Baselbiet. This is a 65 km loop which takes you into the country side East of Basel and allows to climb to the top of the Breitenbach for a total of about 600 metres worth of climbing. The route starts right from the main railway station and uses the cycle paths to take you out of the city.
