🚩 Considered one of the most important defeats in Roman history, the Battle of the Teutoburg Forest brought the triumphant period of expansion under Augustus to an abrupt end. It discouraged the Romans from pursuing the full conquest of Germania, instead switching to tribute collection, thus can be considered one of the most important events in European history.

    2. I think Augustus himself died thinking he was a failure because of this, it was that traumatic to the Roman psyche to lose those eagles. Or something like that.

    3. This must be one of your best, if not the best, video narration ever from you. You had me glued to the screen, despite already knowing the outcome. The daunting doom music and your narration killed it. Well done, man, well done.

    4. "The Romans are no more", he said….That's what he thought and was hoping for. But he only made Rome angry.
Poor Augustus, I can easily imagine how desperate he must have felt. 🤯😭😵‍💫

    5. Imagine being a Roman solider in this battle. Hungry, exhausted, and thoroughly worn down by the three days fighting. All your officers and leadership is killed and there is no escape. The only real commanding officer is Eggius. You out up a last stand by the Eagle…

    6. Unfortunately full with mistakes and a really old status of research. For example even the Museum of Kalkriese demolished the reconstructed wall because its completely uncertain with the reconstruction of such a defense structure based on the excavated archeological evidence. You telling here a nice story but without a deep dive into the real archaeological findings and especially the german publications on this topic.

    7. Whenever the Germanic tribes wins against Rome, the world of the Romans turns upside down.

      Example.
      Cimbrian Wars 100s BC
*When the Germanic Cimbri and Tuetones almost destroyed the Roman Army, that was Manipular at that time, they were forced to change. Instead of a Citizen Army they were now
      Professionals and standardized.

Battle of Teutoberg Forest 9 AD
Instead of conquering Germania, the Romans had to rethink themselves if Conquering the vast germanic territory was worth it.

      Marcomannic Wars
This war has an unforseen consequences. This war contribute to the rise of Lombard, Vandals and Goths that would later haunt the empire.

      Battle of Adrianople

The battle that was the beginning of the end for the Roman Empire.

The Germans may have won a few of those battles that I wrote, but it when they do won. The Roman world turns upside down

    8. Can’t imagine the fear alone of walking through a silent scary forest like that on top of being chased and stalked to death by the Germans it must have been a true horror movie and absolutely terrifying

    9. Thank you for all your videos, you are my absolute favorite channel to watch about history and I really enjoy the top down maps, I enjoy watching that tactics play out. Hope can I learn more about top down tactics?

    10. Where were the advanced guards and flankers?

Why wasn’t a forward guard placed half a days March ahead of the main column to ferret out any potential obstacles

    11. Thanks for the analysis! I have a quick question: My OKX wallet holds some USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (alarm fetch churn bridge exercise tape speak race clerk couch crater letter). How should I go about transferring them to Binance?

    12. Rome lost more men in battles with the Germans before this ambush happened. So why make this such a big deal? Because Rome was an empire built on conquest for immediate profit and conquering Germany didn't offer that. This short sighted view ultimately spelled the end of the Roman Empire.
