Ineos Grenadiers, a pro cycling team founded in 2009, has long been a dominant force in the sport, boasting several Tour de France victories. But lately, fans and experts are wondering: What’s going on at Ineos Grenadiers? The team that was once the powerhouse of pro cycling is struggling to continue to make the impact of its heyday, with 2024 marking its worst season in 15 years. Their relationship with Tom Pidcock appears strained, key staff members have either gone AWOL or left entirely, and some departing riders are calling for change. Are things really that bad for Ineos, and can they turn it around?

  1. Glad to say GCN has found its new-found indepence feet in double quick time. The content has been superb since the change and what a great team, all round, now set free to do what they do best and gettng better.

  2. Excellently balanced mini doco Dan. Well done. I wonder whether there are clashes of egos at ineos between riders and the management. A good manager should be able to manage rider egos for the team’s advantage not perhaps feel threatened or challenged and make it personal. This is me reading between the lines with Pidcock for example, no real foundation but it screams of managements little man syndrome.

  3. Pidcock not delivering? You kiddiing me? T-Piddy (as my wife calls him) is the most dynamic rider in the peloton, right up there with MVDP and WVA. Ineos should be giving him whatever he wants. We were shocked they left him out of Lombardia.

  4. They now have too much corporate red tape to deal with, and too many chefs in the kitchen. They need one general manager, one. And that GM should be able to get or do anything for the team that they want to as long as it does not break any UCI or WADA rules, and it fits within the budget.
. Right now the managers not only have to come to agreement with one another, they have to get permission from the corporate overlords for just about everything.
Adopting new technologies, methods, gear, and personnel is awfully slow and cumbersome that way.

  5. You might as well call yourselves BCN (British Cycling Network) for all your bias and coverage focus. You've somewhat lost the previous focus on coverage for the love of the sport and became a mainly commercial enterprise selling sh*t t-shirts. 👎🏼

  6. A big gap in the video is that it lacks any reference to the controversies regards jiffy bags, "overuse of inhalers", lost laptops etc. Those incidents and how they were (or weren't) handled are also bound to have had a longer term impact.

  7. Blame pie for GCN … By the standard of the script and the personal opinion of Dan (seems like) 80 percent of blame pie goes for the management 5 percent of blame pie goes on Bernal 5 percent goes on pidcock 10 goes elsewhere like the coaches like the bad luck like some people even outside like Remco Poggi Jonas Roglic… But then never point the fact of the way they let the team turn in the real Madrid of cycling buying top stars and never build the Stars.

  8. I don't follow racing and didn't know who 95% of the people mentioned in this video were but I still watched the whole thing. It was well presented and balanced and was a nice compliment to the videos normally produced by GCN. I'd like to see more videos like this.

  9. The problem is that many teams do exactly what Team Sky/Ineos did. We would love for them to continue on for many years, but that might not be a happening thing. When team managers head for the doors that's a huge warning sign. Maybe there was a behind the scenes talk about Bernel and that didn't go the way they wanted. It's nice to be doing some things, but can they afford it in the long run? Only history will tell and it isn't looking good for them.

  10. Hard hitting reporter, also team GCN pull up champ, bringing the feelings on this one. I want SKY to be a threat again. We need big teams with multiple talents. We need more to draw more into cycling. People need to love this stuff!

  11. No team can stay at the top forever. There is bound to be changes over time. Empires fall. The stars wane and the rest is history.
They can rebuild but it will require leadership and consistency and innovation… I hope they make it .

  12. Stage 19 of the 2019 Tour fostered this illusion that Bernal was to be a force in cycling comparable to Wiggins and Froome. He was never going to achieve that, even before the crash permanently impaired his ability. He just doesn't have the requisite mental toughness or the time-trialing ability.
It's noble that Ineos wants to honor their commitment to him, but …

  13. The new GC contenders are good all rounders. POG can sprint, climb, pace and time trial. Vernal was never a great time trialler, so I don't think he would have won a GC even if he didn't crash if Pog or Janus were in the mix. He would no doubt be a podium finisher. I wasn't a fan of Sky/Ineos but not a hater. I think the rest of the world were sick of the same team dominating for so long. UAE is in a similar position. I just hope all current riders are clean as the sport does not need any more controversy. These CO rebreathers seem a little suspect and not enough said about them. 😢

  14. One thing I was waiting for in this video was that other teams took the example of Team Sky and perfected it. Team Jumbo Visma for instance and the step up of team Red Bull Bora HansGrowe. Ineos Grenadiers maybe missed the bus, but other teams stepped up and did better. Should they learn from others and evolve to a next level, it's up to them, others do and will do so.
Next point is British riders in a British team, well if the are good enough. Football coach Louis van Gaal said to Jose Mourinho (when he was his assistent). If you want to win you have to send your strongest team on to the pitch, there is no room for false emotions.
