  1. great ride gordon and love those desolate inns and wonder how people got to them in their days! glad the weather picked up towards the end of your ride, for me today had a barmy sunny 14 degress on my way towards the Cheshire Plain and could easliy have got away with bib shorts gilet and jersey! reckon this may well be the last week of all that! 👍

  2. Very enjoyable. Really like your increased use of handrail pop ups and documentary to let us know where you are. It's needed as well. You see your side of tge pennines rolls on into the east for a far greater distance than on the west side, and along with that, so many valleys congregating. It's a bit like a tea towel, laid on a flat surface, and pushed forward by hand. What usually happens is that you get an initial large uplift of folds in the tea towel at the side where you pushed, followed by smaller folds that ripple on until they fade out. The same as tge Pennines. Big sudden uplifts in the west building up to hills like Kinder, Bleaklow, Black hill etc. Then rolling on and on and on into the East. It's harder to negotiate because there is so much of it, do it's good that you lend us a hand.

  3. Brilliant ride gordon i love looking at the old inns ,the old nonts sarah on new hey road is a classic now converted into living quarters the old sign was still hanging outside until very recently last time i cycled past it had been removed

  4. Beautiful ride out again Gordon with some fantastic views. Never got round to running the 15 mile road race that you mentioned but Holmfirth Harriers have certainly had some great runners over the years who I have competed against.

  5. Great ride as ever Gordon, and your commentary on the Isle Of Skye inn got me thinking about 'upland inns we have lost', I can think of at least eight on the roads around this ride (A640, A62, A635): Jack O'Mitre, Nont Sarahs, Buckstones Inn on the A640, Waggon & Horses, Great Western, Floating Light, Horse & Jockey on the A62, and the aforementioned Isle Of Skye inn on the A635. Interestingly apparently the original inn , the Wessenden Head inn, was actually situated on the north side of the A635 by the Wessenden Head Road turning. It's difficult to believe all the large stone buildings that occupied that small area back in the 1800s, given all there is now is some bits of stone walls and a few gate posts!

  6. A nice route to finish the autumn Grimpeur’s Gordon. Such an abundance of climbs and peaks to get over in that part of the World.
Such a shame to hear of the tragedy that unfolded at Dovestones Res at the weekend.
    Stay safe my friend 👍🏻
