Wow, what a day !
We were already feeling proud to have been asked to represent British Judo at the British Paralympic Association’s Paralympic Potential Event on Saturday 19th at K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley, but what a simply remarkable day we had as well 😊
Organised for UK Sport by judo’s own Ben Quilter, a VI judo World and European Champion and Paralympic bronze medallist, thé day featured around 20 Paralympic sports and gave participants the chance to test out their potential to be a future Paralympic athlete and be signposted to sports and associations that they were interested in or had potential in 😁
Midway through the day there was an athlete Q&A session led by Ben and featuring Paris 2024 Paralympic medalists Bly Twomey (table tennis) and Matthew Robertson (cycling) and it was just amazing to hear their stories of how they became involved in their sport and about their sporting highs and their lows to date.
We met so many simply awesome people and hope that we may have inspired some of them to become involved in judo, and who knows, one day we might be watching them on tv at the Paralympics knowing that we may have had a small part to play in their sporting journeys 😊
Suffice to say after spending a day with so many awesome people we came away feeling moved, inspired, happy and yes totally exhausted but in a really positive way 😁😊🥋
Oh and yes we also allowed Ben to come on and do some judo himself while he wasn’t busy organising things and making sure the event was running well 😁🥋
