Renault has officially revealed the new Renault 4 E-Tech 100% electric at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, a modern revival of the classic Renault 4, reflecting the brand’s commitment to the energy transition. The design stays true to its roots, with a grille inspired by the original, featuring a continuous illuminated surround that highlights the Renault logo. At the rear, the iconic three-part lights are reimagined with a modern LED signature. Other nods to the original include the bonnet lines, rear quarter window shape, sculpted door lines, and roof adorned with bars.

The Renault 4 E-Tech boasts a unique electric canvas roof, the plein sudâ„¢, offering an open view of the sky for all passengers with either a touch of a button or voice control. This, combined with a new Hauts-de-France Green paint option (alongside six other colours), brings a stylish twist to the retro design.

At 4.14m long, the Renault 4 E-Tech offers spacious interiors, benefiting from a 2.62m wheelbase, providing generous knee room and headroom for a B-segment vehicle. Its dual horizontal screens give the cabin a modern feel, with the central 10-inch multimedia screen featuring Renault’s OpenR Link system with Google built-in, offering access to services like Google Maps for optimised charging routes.

The Renault 4 E-Tech also features Reno, a virtual companion, first introduced with the Renault 5. Reno assists drivers with tasks like scheduling charging, enhancing the ownership experience both inside and outside the car.

The boot space is an impressive 420 litres, accessible via a power tailgate, and enhanced by practical touches such as lashing hooks, bag hooks, and underfloor storage ideal for charging cables. The versatility continues with a folding rear bench seat, making it suitable for families.

Built on Renault’s AmpR Small platform, shared with the Renault 5, the Renault 4 E-Tech delivers a go-anywhere practicality. The increased ground clearance and optimised suspension ensure a smooth, comfortable ride, with a revised steering system and tight turning circle (10.8m), perfect for city driving.

Two powertrains are offered, both featuring heat pumps for efficiency and bidirectional charging with V2L (vehicle-to-load) and V2G (vehicle-to-grid) capabilities. The 52 kWh battery powers a 110 kW motor, delivering 150 hp and 245 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0-62mph in under 8.5 seconds and offering a WLTP range of up to 250 miles. It supports fast charging, achieving 15-80% in 30 minutes with a 100 kW DC charger. An alternative 40 kWh battery, paired with a 90 kW motor, offers a range of up to 186 miles.

Renault 4 E-Tech introduces the One Pedal function, optimising regenerative braking for smooth deceleration without using the brake pedal. It also includes advanced driving aids like adaptive cruise control, lane centring, and blind spot monitoring, alongside Renault’s My Safety Shield system for enhanced safety and comfort.

The vehicle is produced at the Maubeuge ElectriCity complex, with components sourced locally to support Renault’s sustainability goals. 26.4% of materials come from recycled sources, and the vehicle has an overall recyclability of 88.6%. It is expected to launch in the UK in mid-2025, with details on pricing and specifications to be announced earlier that year.

    1. Two words……Bloody Awful, nothing but featureless boxes and the R4 looks nothing like its predecessor, at least Fiat got it fairly close to the original 500.
