  1. I wear a helmet as a beginner/intermediate since there are so many boards around sometimes, sometimes I get hit by my own board and actually the helmet is a super sun protection- before I sometimes sun burned on my head. In skiing people also felt too cool for a helmet until most of people realized health goes above appearance beauty and now almost everybody wears one- at least in europe.

  2. Same stupid debate in skateboarding. Look cool (unconcerned for your own safety) vs. Protect the part of your body most vulnerable and responsible for every aspect of your life. Seems like the debate is actually between being dumb and being safe. Too bad dumb behavior is synonymous with masculinity or toughness.

  3. Did Lopez wear a helmet did Hamilton wear a helmet? Did Sonny Boy Gomes wear a helmet? When we were kids we jumped bikes off of ramps made out of wood stacked upon anything we could find in front of a house. No helmet no knee pads no elbow pads no maxi pads.

  4. There was the same attitude towards helmets in the Freestyle Ski and Snowbaord community until the amazing Kevin Pearce had his accident – check out 'The Crash Reel' documentary for the sad but encouraging and motivating story!

  5. I had a helmet for windsurfing. And I would wear it surfing. And man… people did not welcome my presence. This was 2003. Ultimately I wore it less and less.. partly because I got better and better. And partly because in the north it's cold and I wanted by wetsuit hood on. And lastly because the helmets weren't that comfy or streamlined then. But I make a point of supporting helmet wearers in my presence in all sports… skateboarding.. surfing, sailing or anything else

  6. Its always nice to see societal shifts that let insecure people make smarter decisions. Pretty soon insecure people will be able to drive minivans. I cant wait

  7. Kelly Slater was talking about his buddy who always wore a helmet on jre. He said that one time he got dumped off his board by a massive wave and his board hit his helmet so hard it cracked it. Fairly certain he would have been dead otherwise. May look lame, but you only have one brain lol.

  8. As a long time skater and surfer it amazes me the kids at all concrete parks not wearing helmets .. it just takes one bad fall and you are a carrot 🥕 for life !! I grew up on wood half pipes a little more forgiving but we still wore helmets .. street skating I can see but skating big very concrete bowls without a helmet blows my mind !! Cheers

  9. I used a helmet recently in the Mentawais and got my neck torqued bad on a moderate wipeout. I’m still messed up from it. I believe in helmets but the neck injury issue is significant for me.

  10. This used to not work for me in past seasons, I’m on Xbox at a certain point I would get kicked every time, but thanks for the video I’m gonna try a couple methods out or maybe you know one that works 100%

  11. I use to ride Bulls for about 8 years. Back in mid 90’s helmets just started being worn and if you wore one you were gonna get laughed at. I was one of those getting laughed at. Other riders would say you ain’t no real cowboy and I would say you’re right…I’m just a Bull Rider. Can make the Difference between just a bad day or destroying your head and face.

  12. Ski instructor here and also a surfer. I started skiing like everybody else without a helmet. Few years ago skiing in the US (I'm from Chile) a friend of mine did hit his head with a tree and got short memory loss for a day. That experience made me buy a helmet the day after. Two weeks later or so I fell while sliding on a rail and hit my head with it. I still remember the noise that metal pipe made. So, for surfing, as the guys in the video say, if wearing a helmet gives you better chance to making it out safe it would be stupid not to do so because you don't look cool. For big waves 3+ m with rocky or reef under the shallow water, just wear a helmet man. Is your head, is your brain, that shit is priceless and you certainly won't look cool with a head injury not being able to speak properly.

  13. When I first started snowboarding nobody wore helmets and it was considered dorky and not cool. Now it’s weird to see people who don’t wear helmets.
