Bayerische Staatsoper is host of the 2024 International Opera Awards ceremony. Live from Prinzregententheater in Munich, OperaVision streams the complete ceremony featuring an exciting array of categories and performances by featured artists.
Founded in 2012 and known as opera’s Oscars, the International Opera Awards are the annual celebration of excellence in the international opera scene. The awards aim to recognise and reward success, create scholarships for emerging talent and raise the profile of opera. This year’s jury, composed of opera professionals, is chaired by John Allison, editor of Opera with Opera News.
Presented by Petroc Trelawny and streamed LIVE on OperaVision on 2 October 2023 at 19:00 CET and available until 2 December 2024: https://operavision.eu/performance/international-opera-awards-2024

Thank you for showing this ceremony! Congratulations to all the award winners! And to the chatting audience, especially to all the know- it- alls: Let us all be grateful for brave, courageous, busy and determined people like all the "mediocre" "second rate", "throaty" singers from the "very poor short list", who keep the opera houses all over the world going, who show their abilities and pure souls regularly on stage to let us enjoy another wonderful evening and who are not as flawless as the Izoldens in the audience.
Bella Gala.
God save the Opera
Bravo , Maestro ! 👏
Komische Oper? Really? the musical quality here is not at all metropolitan, but very mediocre. And even musicals are not possible here, as the most recent productions have proven quite well, especially the terrible “Cage aux folles”. For me, the house is more vaudeville than serious musical theater, so the award is a joke.
a lot of useless woke awards
Attempting to watch after the event, in the hope of listening to some, at least passable singing, I find that the 3 hours is dominated by people talking – of importance at the time (although I question whether there should be so much) but largely irrelevant after the event. I suspect I may not be alone in now, primarily wanting to hear music – and I'm guessing that from the 3 hours of the event, we may get little more than an hour of that. Ultimately, we are spoiled on YouTube, and while I agree with the thrust of @SelmaSeltsam's comment, the one hour of music heard here, fails to provide for enthralling listening.
