For a beautiful, it's a shame it's touristy, but it's touristy nonetheless recommendation: when you're on your next Brittany trip, get yourself up the Rance estuary from St Malo and have a look at Saint Suliac It is one of Les Plus Beaux Villages de France, according to Wikipedia. Cute as heck, and with the sunsetting on a high tide in the summer with sails on the water and the waterfront scene going on you can kinda forgive the tourisrts

    2. Having lived in the Cotswold [Windrush valley] there are plenty of interesting villages off the beaten track that are empty. I would walk to Bourton for Sunday breakfast in the days when the Sunday papers were a thing. As long as you got out by 10.30am it was ok. Looks like you could have done some bike rafting on that trip.
