Basel – The day’s victories in the penultimate races of the 30th CIC ON Swiss Bike Cup went to Alessandra Keller (Thömus Maxon) and New Zealander Anton Cooper in Basel. Another good news from the Swiss ranks: Filippo Colombo (Scott-Sram MTB Racing) made a great comeback in 2nd place after an almost five-month injury break.

A week after the World Championships in Glasgow, some riders from Switzerland and abroad took advantage of the races on the Schänzli, which were integrated into the 27th Bikefestival Basel, to preserve their top form. And so the races at the CIC ON Swiss Bike Cup in Basel adapted to the outside temperatures: It was hot to and fro.

    Filippo Colombo is back!

In the men’s race, after a heated start, a fairly large leading group quickly formed, which led to many fights and changes of position and made the race enormously fast. The particularly good news: Filippo Colombo, whose comeback after a long injury break was more than successful, was always in the group.

The rider from Ticino had crashed in the road classic Paris-Roubaix at the beginning of April and went to the start without too many expectations. Thomas Frischknecht, the team manager of Scott-Sram, came to Basel especially to observe and support his rider very closely. He was able to draw a thoroughly positive conclusion after the race.

Colombo showed in Basel right from the start that he is once again a force to be reckoned with. After the start he immediately drove to the front and determined the race. In the sprint, only New Zealander Anton Cooper (TrekFactory Racing XC) was a tick faster. Colombo finished just behind in 2nd place with Ben Oliver (NZ).

In 4th, 5th and 6th place, last year’s winner Marcel Guerrini (BiXS Performance Race Team), Andrin Gees (TeamPedale Simplon) and Joel Roth (BiXS Performance Race Team) were a committed Swiss team that had always played an active role in shaping the race.
