      It’s an in-line cable adjuster. You can use it to increase cable tension or remove cable slack. It’s often necessary for front derailleurs or road bikes.

    2. Very useful for front derailleurs.

      Often see them for road rear mechs too, although with an adjuster on the mech itself, they are superfluous imo.

    3. Iine barrel adjusters for your shifters. Most often because road shifter/ levers dont have a barrel adjuster at the pod and may also not have frame mounted cable stops/ adjusters. Without them, you would be left with no wear adjustment for the front derailleur and only the one ON the rear derailleur if you are lucky enough to have one…..cherish these adjusters! Hahaha
