The Tamar Bridge is a road bridge, which spans across the River Tamar. It was built between 1959-1961 by Cleveland Bridge & Engineering Company and links the counties of Devon and Cornwall together in southwest England, UK. The bridge was built due to increasing demand on the ferry crossing which preceded it.
Running parallel to the Tamar Bridge is the Royal Albert Bridge, a Victorian railway bridge which spans across the River Tamar. It was designed and constructed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel (1806-1859) and opened in 1859. Brunel died shortly after the opening of the Royal Albert Bridge.
