‘It’s absolutely ludicrous. It doesn’t change anything and we certainly shouldn’t be doing it!’

Emma Woolf says brands the Caribbean ‘ludicrous’ as King Charles and Keir Starmer face demands to pay astonishing £200bn in reparations over the UK’s role in the slave trade.

Caribbean leaders hope that Britain under its new Labour government might shift its long-standing position on slavery reparations and agree to discuss how to address past wrongs and their current day legacy.

    1. Slavery has nothing whatsoever to do with this generation or the previous generation.end of story. Stop patronising these people's reactions to history's bygones.

    2. So we’ve been given foreign aid for decades. The current budget is £11bn a year so we have already paid back our debt aside from the additional reparations payments the UK has already made. Our debt is paid. Draw a line under it and collectively look to the future

    3. I worked among a "tribe" in Africa whose ancestors kept slaves themselves and sold slaves to the white slavers. I was acquainted with people there who were descendents of slaves and who were looked down on because of it. There was a real class division. A descendent of free people did not intermarry with the descendents of slaves. Should that African country pay reperations to the Caribbean countries?

    4. How can a government go from complaining about black hole that's 22Billion…? Freeze the elderly in the winter ….? How can this even be considered, we don't have the money for it.

    5. No disrespect to die hard royal family fans.but i must say.wat kind of King do we in Britain have that our king would do say nothing about anti British liar starmer removing royal family portrait from no10.sorry but a true king would never allow this to happen in the country a true king is the ruler of.again sorry but we do not have a true leader king in our beautiful Christian country all we have is a weak king who stands back allowing pathological liar and his pathological lying Labour party destroy everything about our beautiful Christian country.shameless thats all i can say

    6. The CIA would kill any American president eyeing up such lunacy. They know it would break America and it's spirit. Lammy would be sludge in a road accident. Are they ruddy mad even talking about this. Labour are not a political party. They are pirates removing all of Britain's wealth.

    7. Victimhood is always an useful tool to blackmail favourable treatment. Slavery, piracy…etc., had been long time problems and chaos amongst Caribbean countries before British Empire came. Stop the nonsense about the reparation!

    8. The uk was built on exploitation, apart from the slave trade or gold from Africa , India .
      Millions of African women
and girls were raped used for breeding .
£200 billon or even trillion wouldn’t be enough .
People are affluent because of deeds committed by their ancestors

    9. This is madness. The history of slavery is so long and so many, many people were enslaved of which the Arabs were one of worst. Don't see much reparation being expected of them.

    10. What about descendants of the European white slaves captured and sold in Africa and the Ottoman Empire by the Barbary pirates.. how far back in history are reparations going.. and what proof of eligibility is going to be used, because not all black people are descendants of slaves..
If reparations are going to be used as a ‘white guilt’ pay-off to black people in an act of historic entitlement.. then surely every once aggrieved group on Earth has similar claims against their historic oppressors..

    11. No money to anyone we dont have it we are not able to keep our pensioners warm let alone this. We have given billions in foreign aid already so just stop the gravy train!!!

    12. Slavery fits with the current racism narrative peddled by all the race grifters…..anything to keep people occupied and divided whilst they play at being megalomaniacs.

    13. WAKE UP – It's another scam to funnel public into 'reparations' & if you don't like it, you're racist ? I despise lammy. He spouts agenda not facts or common sense ?

    14. The whole issue is so ridiculous it doesn’t deserve a moment’s consideration, let alone hours of airtime. Any reparations should be limited to a one-way ticket to their ancestral homes.

    15. It is of course, just as the title suggests, absolutely ludicrous.
As a white, working class Englishman, I am the descendant of serfs. Here is the dictionary definition of "Serf"
"A person in feudal servitude, bound to his or her master's land and transferred with it to a new owner".
So! Presumably I and all the rest of us are entitled to a share of the massive wealth which our slavery created.
Perhaps it's a shame that I am the descendant of white English slaves and not black Caribbean slaves, because as a pensioner who will not be getting the heating allowance this year, a few billion quid would come in quite handy just now.

    16. How bloody stupid are these people. What happened in the past is gone and can’t be changed. Lammy is as dangerous as Starmer another big idiot. All they really want is MONEY it’s all greed. They make me sick.
