About the Series:

A third of British people in work have less than £100 in savings. What is life like for those struggling to make ends meet, despite having a job? This is the real story behind working in Britain today. Filmed throughout the UK over a year, we follow nine families as their financial futures hang in the balance. What does “just about managing” really mean for millions of us from all walks of life and from all over Britain?

From a homeless father and son on the South Coast to an undertaker specializing in cheap funerals in Scotland, and a family working in the steel works in Wales, we tell the human stories of the domestic pressure that working all hours and having nothing to show for it brings. But being broke is not the same as being broken. Despite the hardship, grit, resilience, humor, and entrepreneurial spirit shine through… proving that no matter how tough things are, people always try to find a way to keep going and pull on through to a better future.

About the Series: Filmed throughout the UK over the course of a year, we follow nine families as their financial futures hang in the balance. What does "just about managing" really mean for millions of us from all walks of life and from all over Britain?

  2. I don't understand the logic of UK politicians in obeying US orders to spent billions on Ukraine escalating Ukrainians death rate while UK economy is bankrupted. A lose lose situation. C'mon, let the US fight its own proxy war to weaken Russia. And the poor Ukrainians, demised in an attempt to join NATO. Stay natural and save Ukraine. Use some commonsense helps.

  3. The people are being controlled and manipulated by corporations that also control and manipulate government.

We are like a flock of panicked sheep being herded by ravenous dogs.

  4. The Aussie was having you on mate, we have a very dark humour. My daughter was in the audience of the Daily Show in New York last week and the warm up guy asked any out of towners? She put up her hand and said yeah, they asked her what she does as a job and with a straight face she said I’m a break dancer to which the whole audience roared with laughter. If you know you know 🤣

  5. How about stopping unnecessary stuff like smoking drinking tattoos etc. get your kids a good education and kick their arses until they get part time jobs and contribute to the family?

  6. OMG cleaners get up to $50 per hour in Australia. I’m not ashamed to admit I cleaned toilets and telemarketing to support my kids. I had 3 jobs and sent my kids to private schools. I made sure my kids had part time jobs while they were studying. My daughter was studying for her masters in science and working full time. Sell stuff on eBay , do anything you can within reason to get ahead. Wow this documentary is so sad.

  7. 14:44 being poor is so hard when it comes to social life & hunger but having a strong family bond/love makes it so much better. I grew up poor but I was rich in love & family. & I honestly wouldn’t trade it for anything.

  8. don't worry, it is quite deliberate that your leader would rather keep you in poverty than solve the problem by taxing the rich. because it is more important to be able to deliver slave-like working conditions for most people. because then they still have an excuse to flood the country with welfare immigrants because it is potentially cheap labor for the rich so they can avoid contributing to the community they do not have to pay a fair wage and all the rest of us get is just more criminal foreigners
