Hey gang, I disassembled and cleaned my bike recently and a lot of the screws have started getting really rusty. I kinda soaked them in CLR foam. Any idea what happened? And how to fix it?
CLR says don’t leave it on for more than two minutes, and dont use on aluminum or galvanized metal.
CLR is a mild aciid.

Use some rust remover and gently scrub with a wire brush to remove the rust, then after installing put a layer of grease/vaseline to prevent further rusting.

CLR can sometimes damage nickel-plating and galvanized metals, causing them to rust in the future. That’s my guess.
