Hey folks, Ive got this issue on my bike where in the last(smallest cog) gear, the chain gets stuck. It cannot freewheel and is hard to pedal.
Upon inspection, it seems the chain is rubbing on the hanger, and pushing the chain to rub against the next set of teeth. Now i had this issue before, but after a crash on the drive side it seems to have come again. I have had the hanger out for inspection, but it doesn't seem bent.

It seems some sort of spacing is missing between the cassette and the frame to give space for the chain to be free to move. The cassette is a new 105, the chain set is a slightly older 105 r5800.
When changing the cassette, I don't think there should be any spacers between the last cog and the lock ring, and YouTube seems to agree. Shifting works fine, so I don't thing there are any spacers missing

    The wheels are thru axle

The wheels are hunt superdura gravel wheels with dynamo in front.

The axle needed tightening but that didn't change anything.

I have bought the bike used, so there might be changes from spec I don't know about.

Got any ideas? I'm stumped, but you guys are my last hope before I throw in the towel and hand it over to my LBS

    1. I could be wrong, but that kind of doesn’t look like the correct hanger on there? Maybe do some research about that. If it is second hand maybe the original was broken and they got the wrong replacement?

      Maybe check this out?

It’s a little tricky to diagnose without taking it apart and seeing it.

On hunt wheels there will be end caps on either side of the hub. Check a diagram from hunt to
Make sure you’ve got these in the right place. This would probably make most sense. And would cause the issues you’re describing.

If it’s a second hand bike the wrong derailleur hanger could have been fitted too. It does look like the hanger you have is not seating in the cut out in the dropout properly.

I suspect your hanger might be also be bent if you’ve had an off. It can sometimes be hard to tell from just looking at it without checking it with a hanger alignment tool.
