Ayup! Welcome out on another explore.
This time we’re in the south west of England and we’re taking a journey down the former Midland Railway between Bristol St Philips and Bath Green Park.
I am joined again by Phil, Steve and Vinny, as we cycle 15 miles of trackbed between the two great cities.
The railway opened in 1869 between Bristol and Birmingham, with the branch from Mangotsfield Junction down to bath, being added a year later.
Unfortunately this line was another victim of the Beeching cuts of 1963, eventually closing in 1965. Thankfully the railway path was opened in 1971, meaning so many incredible remains can still be found along the way, having not succumbed to the bulldozers of housing and industrial developments.
We explore tunnels, bridges, viaducts, signal boxes, stations (Including the magnificent terminus at Bath Green Park!), heritage railways, and we even uncover the remains of a subway system beneath Mangotsfield station.
I found most of the photos featured in this video on a fantastic Facebook group called ‘The Midland Railway Route from Bristol to Bath Green Park and Yate’ – https://www.facebook.com/groups/3503689762984249/
I hope you enjoy!

I Love England.Greetings from switzerland.Chees and choclate and very expensive watches.
Shame as had I known you was in this area I'd have shown you the Underground Bath Stone Quarries and the areas converted for Ammunition Storage during WW2 if you'd had the time.
Great video Gareth 😊😊😊😊
Again, I like your intro music 👍🏻; may I ask what it is?
“Some people think it’s the Tour de France around here” lol
The cat and Bath Green Park station stole the show.
Hi Gareth. I use to cycle this route a few times as i use to live near the start of the route. I was wondering when you'd get round to exploring this route as i knew you'd be impressed. Also, I highly recommend you check out Bath's Two Tunnels the first being Combe Down Tunnel, then over the renovated Tucking Mill Viaduct. At over one mile long, Combe Down Tunnel is the longest cycling and walking tunnel in Britain and features interactive light and sound installations.
The Manx missile, Sir Mark Cavendish would've broken the speed limit
Chuckled all the way through this Gaz.
Nice film. I believe there are no maggots in MANgotsfield though!
Gorgeous cat, preserved signal box and heritage line. Love it
